Starting Solids – MUST HAVE products

Starting solids with your baby is such a big step for both mom and babies! I know that before starting with my own boy, I read over hundreds of blogs and videos about how to prepare for it, so here I'll leave you guys with my summary of the only 5 things you'll need when you decide it's time :)

Are you ready to start offering solids to your baby?

If there’s something i’ve learned through motherhood it’s that there is no “one fits all” approach. EVERY baby is different and just as one can do great with purees, another won’t even open his/her mouth with the spoon but instead, thrive with BLW. Some others will take any form of food that is presented to them. The most important thing? OBSERVE your baby. Follow your intuition and your baby’s signs.

A great approach can be not setting your mind to only one method, but complementing them and being flexible. Remember that your baby can sense your energy, so if you become tense and try to force them into something they aren’t ready to do, this will only be counterproductive in their solids journey.

Once you are ready, and know it’s time for both of you to make this next step, these are a few things that will help with the transition.

High chair:

Look for something that is easy to clean, aesthetic with your dining area (because it will be there for a LONG time!) and safe. Personally, I recently changed to Stokke’s Trip Trap chair because the first chair i purchased wouldn’t allow Cassian’s legs to fall correctly. With his new chair, his feet are in a “sitting position” instead of straight in front of him.

Suction bowl and plate:

I find it important that they are suction because babies LOVE playing with their plates…. and this is NOT fun for moms that have to clean up the entire dinner from the floor!

Cup:

Recent studies show that sippy cups aren’t ideal for babies development. I started off with open cups with Cass. I definitely recommend one to serve water during meals.

Spoon:

Essential for purees and also important when you’re teaching your baby to self-feed with spoon.LINK: https://rstyle.me/+KORJHw37Dh1meDmaSIXd7Q

Bib:

Necessary every single time unless you don’t mind your baby’s clothing to get dirty every single time! LINK: https://rstyle.me/+RXk3mT0JuxkrmT1MmcURbQ

2 in 1 steamer and blender:

if you’re doing purees, this is a MUST! Since you will be making purees extremely often, this handy machine will make it super easy to soften and blend your baby’s food perfectly. We used this for the first 2 months when we started with purees, before moving on to BLW.

I’m 26, born and raised in Costa Rica. When I was 19, I met the love of my life and we decided 2 weeks later that we wanted to get married. I finished college  and we decided to leave our country and move to Spain in order to start our new family life
