For our first year anniversary, we went to Prague.
I had always dreamed of visiting Prague since absolutely everyone I spoke about this city with would comment on how magical it was. Everything from the brick roads, castle views, and romantic town balconies had always called my attention. Last year, on a crazy-busy December month, my husband surprised me with a Prague anniversary trip and it was definitely something we will never forget.
If you are planning your first romantic trip to Prague, and have no idea where to start, here are a few tips and ideas
Nobody wants a romantic trip to ONLY include touristic plans. This is why planning these kinds of getaways can get complicated, since you obviously don’t want to miss out on all the culture, historic spots, and must-sees, but want to have enough time to enjoy with your partner, relax, and do something out of the ordinary as well.
If you only have a limited amount of time to dedicate to this gorgeous city, and are feeling overwhelmed by all the information on the internet, then I’m glad your here, because believe me when I say, I’ve been in your position and would have died for some type of guidance from someone who had already visited.
So before I start, I’m pretty sure that you’ve already google researched all the common touristic spots, so ill make this a bit more personalized with our own experiences and ideas. Of course, we take Simba everywhere so many decisions were made taking into consideration pet-friendly hotels and areas. (He gets all the plus sides of having crazy travel parents ha ha!)
Prague recommendations:
Cosmopolitan Hotel:
Must must must stay here. The attention, the room, the decoration. It definitely was a 5-star place (we have gone to some that leave us wondering who on earth gave them the stars…)
Next Door Restaurant:
This place is actually part of the Hotel so we had breakfast every morning here and got to meet the celebrity chef Zdeněk Pohlreich. He is AMAZING. You definitely know he’s a pro just because every single thing we ordered (and even the buffet) looked like a masterpiece. Worth it.
Marina Ristorante:
We were excited to visit this place because it was pretty recommended online. From the outside, it looks impressive.
It’s basically a boat that was transformed into a restaurant so we were looking forward to our anniversary dinner here. However, we were kind of disappointed because it was not the best experience. Decoration wise – perfection. Food wise – not good. Attention-wise – not good either. Service took too long, food tasted like something I could warm in the microwave from the grocery store and we did not feel special at all. Obviously, we made the best of it because it was our anniversary night but definitely not the most recommended place in Prague if you’re looking for quality.
The Street Restaurant and Cocktail Bar:
My husband and I are definitely burger lovers. Once we found out Prague was basically a burger CAPITAL there was no way we were missing this. We immediately took out our phones to search for the best-reviewed burger. After 2 “ok” places we arrived at The Street. I must admit I didn’t have much faith in it, not the prettiest place or menus out there, but I must say THE BEST burgers. Hands down. If you are ever in Prague, please try them out. And the beer is amazing too 🙂
A romantic walk on the Charles Bridge:
Clichés say you should “lock your love” by setting your own lock on the bridge, or rub the statues for good luck….. but im not into those traditions. Instead, make a memorable moment by planning a sunset wine afternoon in one of the terraces by the Charles Bridge, and take a walk around the area. This is literally one of the most romantic settings I’ve ever been to and believe me; you will never forget it.
Visit Prague Castle at night
Many people don’t know this, but did you know that you can enter Prague Castle at night? Avoid the touristy lines and crowds by planning a special night to this magical castle. Breathtaking views, peaceful settings and hopefully, a starry night will never let you forget your visit to the St.Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace, and St. George’s Basilica (all part of the castle). Top it off with a romantic dinner and this is going to be one of your trip highlights!
Had to include:
Our cutie on the plane!!! He’s the best behaved dog ever!
And… If you’re planning on going to Prague, definitely consider December because the Christmas markets are beautiful!!! Crazy December was worth it!!!
